How do you deal with insecurity?
This is one of the most popular questions that I get… and no doubt because diverse professionals often don’t feel supported.
So, what do you do?
One of the tools that I love to use myself takes advantage of data and evidence. Why?
Because our brain will try to cut us down, using the Negativity Bias wired in… except that hard data is hard to refute.
So what do I mean by that?
It’s called a Proof Portfolio.
A portfolio that proves that I am valuable.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
There’s 4 things that go into it:
1) List your strengths.
Often the things that come easy to us are our strengths. Except… we often don’t recognize them because they’re easy, and shouldn’t strengths be
something that’s hard to do?
The thing is, these strengths come easily to you, but they don’t come easy to everyone, so they’re easy to overlook.
2) List the positive feedback.
Collect it. Keep the verbatim, as they said it. Put it all in one place so you can go back and remind yourself that others have noticed the impact that you
make.
3) List the challenges you have overcome.
You wouldn’t be where you are now if you haven’t overcome big things before. If you’ve overcome that challenge, you can overcome this next one too.
Because it’s in the past we can brush it aside. No… acknowledge these.
4) Identify the strategies you’ve used.
What helped you get to the other side of those challenges? What approaches did you use? What resources did you tap into?
Who helped you? You’ve used these strategies… and now you can use them again!
Proof portfolio.
This is data and evidence.
You are not starting from scratch.
You already have a multitude of value right now.
Own it!
