“That’s a great idea!”
I loved hearing this when I would share an idea. I knew I was onto something… and the person who just told me this would help! Because why wouldn’t they?
They think it’s great!
Except, it often wasn’t the case. They would show up to meetings but didn’t execute tasks. They often were unresponsive and always had an excuse.
Ugggghhhh! What’s going on? Why aren’t they doing anything?
“If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.”
Well… I came to realize that there’s a big difference between someone who’s interested in my idea and someone who’s committed.
You see, someone who’s interested just thinks the idea sounds good, but they don’t have a stake in the end game.
But those who are committed are connected to the idea. Either:
1) They’re connected emotionally, meaning they’re passionate about wanting to make this thing happen. They know how much it’s going to make a difference.
2) They’re connected because the idea will benefit them as well.
The commitment is what sparks them to action, so you don’t have to.
You want to work with people who are truly committed, not just interested.
Help people go from interested to committed.
Show them how this idea connects with their passion.
Or help them understand how it’s going to benefit them.
If you craft your idea strategically… in the end, it will support you all.
