The Story Of Mindtap
Laura Flessner never dreamed of being a business owner.
It was November of 2020, and the Covid Pandemic was well under way. She'd been working for Pfizer for over 10 years, yet now a Joint Venture restructure eliminated her role. This was extremely unfortunate, because it was her favorite role in her 15+ year career.
But sometimes you need an extra push to step out of the box.
Instead of looking for another role... Laura saw this as an opportunity to do something she never before considered: to start her own business.
But what should she build? An agency based on her skills of Consumer Insights? A consultancy for Corporate Innovation? Those things would make sense, given her career experience. And Laura knew these were valuable capabilities! But they didn't speak to her heart.
So she searched within herself. And asked the question... What kind of support do I wish I had, through my career?
And Mindtap was born.

About your coach Laura Flesnner
My career started with 17 years in corporate innovation, across various roles - engineer, product designer, insights & founder. I’ve worked for top Global Consumer Product Goods (CPG) and Pharma companies, such as Procter & Gamble, Pfizer & GSK.
But I didn't always have these successes.
There were times when I felt stuck. I was getting great performance reviews but no advancement.
I wondered if unconscious bias affected the way people saw me, how they heard me... because I am a diverse professional. I am a woman, Asian, an introvert, who looks young for my age.
The statistics are there. The traditional advancement system is not built for people who look, sound, and think different.
But then... I found a way forward.
A way that breaks away from how things are normally done.
A way grounded in applied neuroscience and utilizes proven innovation processes and tools.
A way that enables anyone, in any role, at any level, to be seen and valued as a leader.
Even if, and especially if, you are different.
My mission is to help diverse professionals break through unconscious bias so they can be seen, heard & valued.
