Writer’s block.
Ok, you’re probably not a writer…
But you’re looking for creative ideas. Out of the box thinking & problem solving.
But they’re just not coming.
You’re stuck and stagnant.
I know that feeling all too well.
Here’s some brain tips to get that creative energy flowing!
"Creative energy is more critical than learning."
I use two tools: Space & Sparks.
SPACE
Set yourself up with the right environment.
- Change your surroundings – Are you in the same space you “execute” work? Executing and creating (creativity) are two very different functions of the brain. Change your space and change how your brain thinks. If you can, find somewhere that is open – or has an open view. For example, studies have shown that higher ceilings trigger bigger broader creative thinking.
- Alternate thinking time alone and with people – Time alone allows our brain to let our thoughts wander and connect information we already have. Time with people can add more to our ideas or expose us to new ways of thinking.
- Activate curiosity – Deliberately shifting from “being an expert” mindset to “being an explorer” will create an open mind. This will allow you to follow unexpected paths that lead to more possibilities and extend your imagination.
SPARKS
Intentionally find things that ignite your creative energy.
- Read – Read books or articles with new or different perspectives.
- Explore – Go on a field trip and experience something new, see things from a new vantage point or through a new lens of thinking (e.g. from your customer’s view)
- Question & Listen – Speak with new people to expose yourself to new thoughts. Experts, specialists, your customer, service providers, etc.
We are all capable of creative thinking.
But you have to be intentional if you want to cultivate creative energy.
Have fun… and create!
