Solutions Await Avoid these brain traps

A fact the brain often forgets…

→ Every problem has Solutions. Plural.

“All the problems sitting there are an invitation for you to be creative, make use of your skills and resources and find a solution.”

But the brain usually falls into one of two traps:

Trap #1 – This is impossible.

One bias that prevents us from seeing any solution is called “Functional Fixedness”.

We see objects or concepts only how they’re traditionally used, limiting new possibilities.

Example… how many uses can you think of for a rubber band?

(Look up “52 uses for a rubber band”).

Open your mind, change your environment, talk to new people, play and experiment. You’ll figure something out.

Trap #2 – Find a solution, go.

Action Bias comes into play here. It feels better to be doing something than nothing (or just thinking). So you start to act on the first solution you find.

However, stopping at the first solution can keep you from seeing a better one.

Resist the urge to stop and act. Usually the best solution isn’t the first. Ask yourself… What else could work?

Stretch your thinking,

And you strengthen your impact!

make use of your skills and resources and find a solution.”
