Stop Overthinking It

Stop Overthinking It

One of the biggest issues I see with diverse professionals looking to advance their careers is they put too much time into being perfect.

I get it… You’re focused on making things the best. (This was me too).

But you are overthinking it.

→ Your work quality is high, but recognition could be better.

→ Managers say “great job!”, but you’re not advancing.

→ You feel good about your work, but not about your career.

Because the part you skipped?

Your leadership strategy.

You can have:

→ The most beautiful PowerPoints.

→ The most polished meetings.

→ The most powerful reports.

But none of that works without leadership skills.

Want to see exactly how I broke through?

I have a 3-step Innovative Leadership strategy I use.

It created a promotion for me, when I was stuck.

(Big picture thinking, connect to passion, take action).

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”

Here’s the strategy…

Lead your own idea.

One that isn’t given to you or assigned, but one that you have passion for and know will make a difference.

How do you do this? Here’s the 3 steps I used (and still do with every new idea!):

Step 1: Create a powerful idea.

One that both you’re passionate about, but also you know meets the company’s priorities.

Step 2: Secure people and resources.

Find people who are excited about this, excited to support you, to grant approvals and to give you budget.

Step 3: Make it happen.

Keep going, even if you’re not sure exactly how to do it. Make the best decisions you can with the information you have. Learn as you go and make it happen.

Go beyond just doing the work.

Leadership skills turn impactful work into career growth.

They shift from “great job” into “we need to move you up!”

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
