Wait… He said what?!

May 25, 2022

Steve Kerr, the basketball coach for the Golden State Warriors took a seat at a press conference before the game, like he does every game.

Except, instead of talking about how he and his team will approach the game, he said something that went against his job, his industry.

“I’m not going to talk about basketball. Basketball questions don’t matter.”

Steve Kerr demonstrated his leadership by making a decision to talk about what he thought was more important (gun laws) than what was expected. (see video here)

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

I’m not going to get into politics or what I believe will solve the terrible problem of mass shootings…

But I do want to highlight Steve Kerr’s act of leadership.

Courage. It takes courage to do something outside of what you are known for or expected to do.

Vulnerability. It takes a willingness to share your emotions and ideas.

Passion. You can tell this was a topic that deeply touched Steve.

Steve Kerr took action and used what he had available to him, a press conference, to stand as a leader.

How might you do something unexpected, to stand as a leader?
