Where I went wrong…

April 23, 2025

Where I went wrong...
I’d always given 150%. Until I didn’t. Why?

I had been working at Pfizer for years, putting in my all. I felt ready for a promotion, and so I asked. (That’s what you’re supposed to do, right?)

I was told, You’re on the right track!… but not yet.

“Ok, what else do I need?” I asked.

Just keep doing what you’re doing! – They said.

In other words… there is no gap.

That’s when I realized… that extra 50% I’ve been putting in wasn’t getting me anywhere faster.

It was so frustrating! Especially because it was really great work. Work I was proud of.

But the equation just didn’t add up. Energy In ≠ Results.

So, I scaled back. I got my job done and made sure to put in 100%. But redirected my extra 50%. Where?

To places that fueled me!

Side passion projects. Personal development. Employee resource groups.

What did I get back in return?

• Growth & skills

• A broader network

• Excitement and energy

When you stop building someone else’s goals, you finally make space for your own.

Being choosy where you put your energy?

You’re not selfish.

You’re building your career on your terms.

And that’s the real power move.
