You Are Not A Robot

July 17, 2024

Feeling drained? Then you may need to hear this: It’s ok to pause.

It wasn’t scheduled… but I could feel my energy running low.

This past month had been intense. I tried something new, learned some of what worked, and a lot of what didn’t.

And one thing that takes a lot of my energy is creating content for LinkedIn. I post something new every day!

But I knew I needed a break. And so I decided… I wasn’t going to post for a week.

Instead, I refocused on tasks that fueled me… like strategy work, 1:1 conversations, and ideating.

I also took some extra time for walks where I could slow down, reflect, and imagine new possibilities.

I made space for unhurried thinking time.

“In this game, everyone needs a break to refuel, recharge, and jump back in full throttle.”

Everything natural in this world goes through cycles. I find this is true for my energy.

It’s also very true in the world of innovation.

Create something new.

Test it and learn.

Step back, and adjust.

Repeat.

Right now… this was my adjust, recharge, and reset part of the cycle. And I was ok with it.

I didn’t feel guilty for pausing.

I didn’t feel guilty for disconnecting.

I didn’t feel like I should be doing something ‘more productive’.

This was in fact very productive.

Because the next week… I came back with renewed energy, inspiration & motivation.

Not only that, but I had new pieces to my strategy and plans for my next approach.

Breaks don’t need to be scheduled, like vacation.

They can be taken as needed, like sick days. However, low energy isn’t a sickness.

It’s a signal — you’ve been working very hard and need to rest, recover & recharge.

Taking a break isn’t a sign of weakness — it’s a strategic reboot for your mind & body.

Your productivity, creativity, and overall well-being will thank you for it.
