Be Heard

April 10, 2024

Letting your voice be heard is more than just speaking up; it’s about empowering yourself and others. It’s a catalyst for change, a beacon of authenticity,

and a reminder that every voice matters in shaping our collective narrative.

But it can be hard to do, right? I remember having every intention to speak in a meeting or ask a question in a town hall… but waited it out instead.

It’s not just you being shy. Or scared. Or uncomfortable.

Be on the lookout… your brain is likely shutting down more of your ideas than anyone else.

"Don't follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you.”

Your thoughts and your ideas are your super-power. Your unique insight.

Yet your brain has biases that prevent you from sharing them.

“Oh, well John’s idea is better than mine, plus he’s the team lead.”

“Sara is an expert, she must know more than me.”

“That’s just a silly question… I’m sure everyone else already knows the answer.”

“My manager has more experience than I do – she would have mentioned it if it was a good idea.”

This specifically is called 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘽𝙞𝙖𝙨 – where you defer your thoughts, ideas & suggestions because people with a higher title,

experience or role “knows better”.

It’s often automatic. You may not even realize it’s happening.

But expertise and title don’t automatically make better ideas.

Actually, expertise can limit the imagination.

The most creative and innovative ideas come from a varied experience. Once that can connect things in a way no one else can.

And your voice brings that value by sharing your thoughts, opinions, and ideas.

So if you feel that hesitation to share, acknowledge it for what it is. It’s your brain trying to keep you safe.

But you want more than safety. You want to make a difference, make waves, and get to a better place. Move past that hesitation.

Be brave and courageous.

Be a voice,

Not an echo.

“Don’t follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you.”
