I hate to admit this… but recognition is hard to get. Even if you’re doing great work. You’d think quality work would speak for itself…
But this simply is not true.
I can list a whole lot of brain reasons that get in the way… but instead, let’s focus on how you can change this.
Being seen as a leader doesn’t change your career by 10%.
That recognition often makes it 2x, 5x or 10x better.
You’re known as the go-to person.
People come to you vs. you having to fight for a great position.
But you have to know how to do these 3 things:
– Go above and beyond
– Focus your effort
– Share your work
"I can and I will. Watch me.”
📌 Go above and beyond… in the right place.
Be seen as creating even more value than expected. The key theme here is working on something valued & unexpected.
– Get to know your management’s greatest challenges
– Don’t focus your extra effort on work you already do
– Suggest solutions to problems you come across
– Stop waiting for projects to be assigned to you
– Look for even bigger problems to solve
– Stretch outside your job description
– Share your ideas
– Bet on yourself
📌 Focus your effort… because creating impact takes a lot of it.
These 5 skills allow you to take control of your time and energy and direct them effectively:
– Decline unfocused meetings
– Stop trying to please everyone
– Spot distractions and eliminate
– Take ownership of your priorities
– Say no to things outside your priorities
📌 Having done the hard work, you must share it.
“Build it and they will come” is a lie. Don’t rely on your work to speak for itself… it’s a terrible marketer. You must be the one to help people take notice, take interest & engage.
– Talk about it
– Post about it
– Share stories about it
– Invite others to experience it
– Be excited about what you’ve worked on
It’s hard to think of a leader that hasn’t done these 3 things.
To level up, you need more than knowledge, you need strategies.
